A Wholistic Approach to Improving Cardiovascular Health

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in the world. The greatest unnecessary disease of our time, it affects 81.1 million adult Americans (1 in 3, 25.7% of the entire population). There are some 850,000 deaths per year in the US alone. The World Health Organization estimates 12 million deaths per year worldwide–every second death globally is cardiovascular in men and women. It includes hypertension (30 million people in the US),
coronary artery disease (heart attack and angina pectoris), stroke (3 million people in the US), congestive heart failure, and congenital cardiovascular defects. Costs to manage this disease in the US are well over $300 billion annually. Exploding disease management costs in the US are one of the greatest barriers to national economic health.

Pre-conference Training

Licensed Acupuncturists: Join in the exciting integration of Chinese medicine within a traditional Western addiction and behavioral health setting. Become an advocate for the NADA protocol in addiction treatment as well as dual diagnosis and mental illness, and disaster response including PTSD. Enjoy the rich experience of opening doors for acupuncture to benefit those who may not otherwise seek out such a simple yet powerful healing treatment.

Note: You will receive a certificate of completion after the training but you do not need to submit continuing education credits to maintain status as an Acu Detox Specialist because this is not a certification.

Training Schedule

Trainees participate in a 5-day intensive training that begins on Sunday 6/10 and ends on Thursday 6/14, followed by the 2-day conference. The training interweaves the theory and application of acu detox along with a clinical practicum. Hands-on experience is available by providing acu detox treatments to each other as well as clients served by local programs. Trainees are required to participate in both days of the conference to earn a certificate of completion at the end of the 2nd day of the conference.

Travel and Accommodations

Accommodations will be available at two locations: Courtyard by Marriott at Yale at $119/night (up to 4 people per room) and Yale University dorms at $70/$40 night (see p. 6 for more detailed information). Trainees are responsible for transportation, lodging and food throughout the training period, although there may be organized carpooling to and from the training site each day.

•Examine diagnosis based on life cycles

•Develop treatment plans in accordance with preventative health options based on life cycles

International luminary and Daoist priest Jeffrey Yuen shares traditional daoist healing arts wisdom about nurturing health in accordance with life cycles. Diagnostic and treatment options that occur at the various phases of our lives, from dietary to lifestyle choices are crucial. Considering gender, age, and individual concerns, this seminar will explore the application of the various modalities of Chinese medicine (coming from a Daoist perspective) to promote lifelong health, including preventative health and preparing for cyclical changes. In addition, the stresses of life at different phases will be examined and recommendations for life cycle related management of mental health will be addressed.

Jeffrey Yuen, a Daoist priest and martial artist, has trained many thousands of Acupuncturists, Herbalists, Daoists, and those interested in Classical Chinese medicine throughout the U.S. and abroad. His lineages include the 88th generation of the Jade Purity Yellow Emperor Lao Xi School and the 26 th generation of the Complete Reality Dragon Gate School. He also served as the lineage holder of the Daoist martial arts system know as Wu Xing Quan/Five Element Fist - an internal and monastic style of Hua Shan. Dr. Yuen also studied Chinese herbal medicine with Master Gong Song-Liu, a eunuch for the last two emperors of the Qing Dynasty who apprenticed with the imperial medical physicians.
