Since 1990, the Acupuncture Society of New York (ASNY) has been a vehicle for the advancement of the acupuncture profession in New York State. Our mission is to promote the growth and preserve the integrity of the profession in our state. ASNY opens doors through educational, legislative, referral, and professional development activities.
As a member of ASNY, your voice is added to those of other colleagues, students, schools, organizations and patients, meeting the challenges of a young and rapidly growing profession. Your membership helps raise the visibility of your field, and increases patient access to acupuncture services throughout the state. ASNY retains an experienced and effective lobbyist right in Albany to represent the interests and concerns of our members to the New York State legislature. During these years of growth, your participation makes a substantial difference.

Second, ASNY has a partnership program with Working Today/Freelancers Union. Working Today is a nonprofit organization that provides services and advocacy for non-traditional and self-employed professionals. Our partnership allows ASNY members to join Working Today’s Freelancers Union to gain access to a variety of group-rate health insurance plans. Freelancers Union also offers dental, life and disability insurance, advocacy opportunities, educational events and group discounts. Health insurance plans include a comprehensive POS plan, two in-network EPO plans, and two high-deductible plans. ASNY members will receive a discount on the insurance set-up fee when they indicate their ASNY membership during registration.
To receive health insurance through Freelancers Union, you must meet the eligibility requirements for premium membership. To join, you must have worked a minimum of 20 hours per week for the last 8 weeks or earned $10,000.00 in the last six months, and you must live or work in New York State. There will be some documentation required once you join Freelancers Union. Depending upon your work situation, it may be a form to be signed by employers or proof of your practice activity (copies of your appointment schedule and financial data). Freelancers Union’s Member Services department is available by phone (800.856.9981) to answer your questions about membership eligibility and insurance enrollment.

Discounts to ASNY-sponsored events, including conferences and continuing education offerings, as well as seminars offered by the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia, and the Maryland Acupuncture Society. Discounts on acupuncture supplies, herbs, books, and more, with participating 21 AOM vendors. This program can more than pay for your membership. ASNY's free 800 number public referral service, making your practice more available to the general public. Professional members receive referrals from our online referral database at www.asny.org. The “Find and Acupuncturist” page is the most visited page on our website, other than the home page. The opportunity to join one of ASNY’s seventeen committees, which are groups of students and practitioners that work together in areas of common interest to make a difference in their profession.
